Updated: Oct 13

If you are a woman over 40 or an empty nester in Utah County searching for purpose, connection, and a way to heal, you may be wondering… “Where can I find a fun, safe, and uplifting way to reconnect with myself and others?”

At Dance to Uplift, my adult ballroom dance classes in Springville, Utah County offer more than just learning West Coast Swing. They are a doorway to joy, healing, and a renewed sense of confidence. I combine movement, music, and breathwork for stress relief to help you release emotional blocks, reconnect with your body, and rediscover how to have fun in your 40s (and beyond).

These are not just dance classes. They are spaces for transformation. Whether you come for the Move with Meaning West Coast Swing series or my ladies-only Play Passionately styling class, you will leave with more than steps—you’ll leave feeling alive.

My Healing Journey: From Grief to Joy on the Dance Floor

Years ago, I was navigating one of the most difficult seasons of my life. I was having resurfaced body memories from past abuse, and the kind of stress that lingers in your body long after the abuse. I felt disconnected from myself, constantly “on” for everyone else but empty inside.

Every time I stepped onto a West Coast Swing dance floor.

The music seemed to reach into the quiet places of my soul. It wasn’t just movement; it was connection. The lead and follow, the playfulness, the shared rhythm—it all felt like medicine. My breath slowed, my shoulders dropped, and the movement, the connection, always seemed to heal my soul.

Over the years, West Coast Swing became my sanctuary. I began to see how movement for mental health and intentional breathwork could help regulate my nervous system, reduce anxiety, and rebuild trust in myself and others. This is the foundation of Dance to Uplift—a place where movement heals, and every step is a chance to uplift and be uplifted..

What Makes Dance to Uplift Different?

In Utah County, you can find plenty of dance studios. But Dance to Uplift is intentionally small, personal, and deeply focused on your whole-being wellness. Here’s how we stand out:

1. Emotional Healing Through Dance

We use West Coast Swing for beginners as a tool to release tension, boost mood, and invite more play into your life. BLOOM

2. Breathwork for Stress Relief

Each class incorporates breathwork exercises for beginners to help calm your mind and reset your body’s stress response. This isn’t just about learning steps—it’s about leaving class with tools you can use every day to feel more grounded and balanced.

3. Trauma-Informed Approach

If you’ve experienced emotional or physical trauma, dance can feel intimidating. I create a safe, encouraging space to rebuild trust in your body at your own pace.

4. Classes Designed for Your Stage of Life

Many dance classes are geared toward younger crowds or competitive dancers. My classes are designed for women over 40 and empty nesters—people looking to have fun, move with meaning, and find community.

Why West Coast Swing?

West Coast Swing is known as the “dancer’s dance” for its versatility, creativity, and connection. It can be danced to many types of music, from blues to pop to R&B. For beginners, it’s accessible without needing a dance background. For those looking to have fun in your 40s, it’s a playful, social outlet that also improves balance, posture, and mental sharpness.

How Breathwork Heals

Breathwork is more than a warm-up—it’s a powerful healing tool. Controlled breathing can:

  • Lower blood pressure and heart rate

  • Reduce anxiety and symptoms of depression

  • Help process and release stored trauma

  • Improve focus and clarity

If you’ve been feeling stressed, disconnected, or overwhelmed, breathwork for stress relief can help you create a pause, calm your nervous system, and open space for joy.
